Enzo Jeremías Fernández
Enzo Jeremías Fernández is an Argentine central midfielder born in San Martín on 17 January 2001. He developed at River Plate after starting with local club La Recova, and made his senior breakthrough following a loan to Defensa y Justicia. At Defensa y Justicia, Fernández moved into a deeper midfield role and helped the club win the 2020 Copa Sudamericana. Returning to River Plate, he continued his development before moving to Benfica in July 2022. Fernández quickly established himself in Portugal, then joined Chelsea in January 2023. At Chelsea, he has operated as a deep-lying playmaker or advanced central midfielder, using his passing to progress possession and influence tempo. Fernández is also an Argentina international, helping the team win the 2022 FIFA World Cup and earning the tournament’s Young Player award.
