Diogo Meireles da Costa

Diogo Meireles da Costa is a Portuguese goalkeeper born in Santo Tirso on 19 September 1999. After developing in Portugal, he joined FC Porto’s academy in 2011 and progressed through the club’s youth and reserve sides. Costa represented Portugal at youth level, winning the 2016 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and saving a decisive penalty in the final against Spain. He entered Porto’s senior setup in 2019, initially serving as a deputy before becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 2021–22 season. His reputation grew through his penalty saves, including three in the 2022 Champions League group stage and all three in Portugal’s Euro 2024 shoot-out victory over Slovenia. At Euro 2024, he also made a crucial one-on-one save against Benjamin Šeško in extra time. Costa combines shot-stopping with distribution and proactive sweeping behind the defence, helping him contribute to Porto’s build-up. He remains registered with FC Porto and has become an established Portuguese international, adding the 2025 Nations League title to his achievements.
