Diego Carlos Santos Silva

Diego Carlos Santos Silva is a Brazilian centre-back born in Barra Bonita on 15 March 1993. He developed through América Futebol Clube and Desportivo Brasil before beginning his senior career in Brazil and moving to Portugal in 2014. After a spell with Estoril Praia, Diego Carlos spent the 2014–15 season on loan at Porto B, making 19 appearances in Portugal’s second division. He joined Nantes in 2016, where his strength and aerial defending helped establish him in Ligue 1. In 2019, Diego Carlos moved to Sevilla, becoming an important defender during their 2019–20 Europa League-winning campaign. He then joined Aston Villa in 2022, but an Achilles tendon rupture in his second match interrupted his first season in England. At centre-back, he combines aggressive challenges with recovery work and distribution from deep, while his career also includes Olympic gold with Brazil.
