Derrick Abu

Derrick Abu is an English defender born on 18 December 2003. He began playing at We Make Footballers before joining Chelsea’s academy at under-11 level, spending about a decade developing at Cobham. Abu signed a scholarship in 2020 and became a professional with Chelsea in February 2021. In July 2023, he moved to Southampton, where he continued his progression towards senior football. He joined Harrogate Town on loan in February 2024 and made 14 appearances during the spell. In July 2025, Abu moved to France to join Valenciennes, adding a new national football environment to his experience. He has represented England at under-17 level, while his development has included work as a full-back and exposure to wider defensive roles.
