Deroy D'Encarnação Duarte

Deroy Duarte is a Cape Verdean midfielder born in Rotterdam on 4 July 1999. He joined Sparta Rotterdam’s academy in 2006 and progressed through the club’s system alongside his brother, Laros Duarte. Duarte made his senior debut during the 2017–18 season and later helped Sparta return to the Eredivisie after relegation. By the time he left in 2021, he had made 115 appearances and scored 13 goals for the Rotterdam club. He then joined Fortuna Sittard on a free transfer, establishing himself in central and defensive midfield during a three-year Eredivisie spell. In July 2024, Duarte moved abroad to Ludogorets, adding Bulgarian football and European competition to his experience. Internationally, he represents Cape Verde and appeared three times at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, supplying one assist.
