David Luiz Moreira Marinho

David Luiz Moreira Marinho, known as David Luiz, is a Brazilian centre-back born in Diadema in 1987. He developed at Vitória, where he moved from defensive midfield into central defence and helped the club gain promotion from Brazil’s third tier in 2006. After joining Benfica in 2007, David Luiz became a key defender, operating at centre-back and left-back, and helped win the Portuguese league in 2009–10. He moved to Chelsea in 2011 and played a decisive role in the club’s 2012 Champions League triumph, converting a penalty in the final shootout. After a spell with Paris Saint-Germain, he returned to Chelsea and helped them win the 2016–17 Premier League title. David Luiz later represented Arsenal, winning the 2020 FA Cup, and has also played for Brazil. He is currently listed with Pafos.
