David López Silva

David López Silva is a Spanish defensive midfielder from Barcelona who has also operated at centre-back. He developed in the youth systems of Sant Cugat Esport, CE Mercantil and CF Damm before joining Espanyol, where he entered senior football with the reserve team in 2008. Loans to Terrassa, Leganés and Huesca broadened his experience, with Huesca providing a full Segunda División campaign. López returned to Espanyol in 2013 and made his La Liga breakthrough, scoring against Valencia. Napoli signed him in 2014, and he won the 2014 Supercoppa Italiana while contributing in a disciplined midfield role. Returning to Espanyol in 2016, he increasingly played in central defence and helped the club win promotion as 2020–21 Segunda División champions. Since joining Girona in 2022, López has combined defensive coverage with distribution and scored the club’s first goal in European competition against Feyenoord in the Champions League.
