David de Gea Quintana

David de Gea Quintana is a Spanish goalkeeper born in Madrid on 7 November 1990. He joined Atlético Madrid’s academy at 13, progressed through the club’s system and made his senior breakthrough in 2009. At Atlético, David de Gea helped win the 2010 UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup before moving to Manchester United in 2011. He developed at Old Trafford into an outstanding reflex shot-stopper, particularly in one-on-one situations, and won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award four times, including three consecutive victories from 2014 to 2016. De Gea made 545 appearances for United and departed in 2023 as the club’s record holder for clean sheets. Internationally, he won two UEFA European Under-21 Championships, started for Spain at Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup, and was omitted from the 2022 squad. After a year away from professional football, De Gea signed for Fiorentina in August 2024.
