Dário Cassia Luís Essugo

Dário Essugo is a Portuguese defensive midfielder born in Lisbon on 14 March 2005. He joined Sporting CP’s academy at nine and progressed through Portugal’s youth teams, including the under-20s. Essugo made his senior Sporting debut against Vitória de Guimarães on 20 March 2021, becoming the club’s youngest player to appear. He also became the youngest Portuguese player to feature in the Champions League in December 2021. After leaving Lisbon, he continued his development with loan spells at Chaves and Las Palmas. At Las Palmas, Essugo established himself as a regular starter during the 2024–25 season, adding experience in La Liga. His defensive work, ball recovery and measured distribution have supported his growth as a midfield anchor. Essugo subsequently joined Chelsea and is listed in the club’s squad.
