David Richards

David Richards is a Welsh goalkeeper born in Abergavenny on 31 December 1993. He developed in Cardiff City's academy between 2010 and 2012, progressing to a professional contract while working as an understudy to David Marshall. Richards gained early senior experience on loan at Llanelli in 2012 and Chippenham Town in 2013. He then spent a largely inactive period with Bristol City, collecting a League One winners' medal and an EFL Trophy medal as a non-playing squad member in 2014/15. In July 2015, Richards joined Crewe Alexandra, where he often served as Ben Garratt's deputy before making his senior English league debut against Coventry City in September 2017. He saved a penalty in Crewe's 2019/20 EFL Cup shoot-out win over Middlesbrough and made 32 League One appearances in 2021/22. After a 2023 loan at St Johnstone without a first-team appearance, Richards later continued his career with Dundee United and is registered with Kidderminster Harriers.
