Dimitar Mitov

Dimitar Mitov is a Bulgarian goalkeeper born in Kozloduy on 22 January 1997. He developed at Chavdar Etropole before moving to England in 2013 to join Charlton Athletic, where he progressed through the youth setup and also spent time on loan at Canvey Island. After leaving Charlton in 2017, Mitov joined Cambridge United and initially served as a deputy before becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in 2018. He helped Cambridge win promotion to League One in 2020–21 and produced nine saves in their memorable 1–0 FA Cup victory over Newcastle United in January 2022. Mitov made 146 appearances for Cambridge and was named the club’s Player of the Season for 2021–22. He moved to St Johnstone in 2023, helping the club retain its Scottish Premiership status and saving a crucial penalty against Motherwell on the final day. In June 2024, Mitov joined Aberdeen, later saving two penalties in the 2025 Scottish Cup final shootout as Aberdeen won the trophy, while he made his Bulgaria debut in September 2023.
