Diego Ferney Chará Zamora

Diego Ferney Chará Zamora is a Colombian midfielder born in Cali on April 5, 1986. He began playing at Boca Juniors de Cali before developing in the Deportes Quindío youth system and making his professional debut for the club in 2004. Chará later represented América de Cali in 2009 and Deportes Tolima in 2010, helping Tolima reach the 2010 Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals and defeat Corinthians in the 2011 Copa Libertadores. In April 2011, Portland Timbers signed him as the club’s first Designated Player. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Chará has built his game around anticipation, ball-winning, covering space and moving possession forward. He helped Portland win their first MLS Cup in 2015 and was selected to the MLS Best XI in 2020. Chará remains associated with the Timbers, where his long service has made him a central figure in the club’s midfield.
