David Robert Bates
David Robert Bates is a Scottish defender, born in Kirkcaldy on 5 October 1996. He developed in the Raith Rovers youth system before gaining senior experience on loan with East Stirlingshire and Brechin City. In 2016, Bates moved to Rangers, where he progressed into first-team football and made his Scottish Premiership debut in April 2017. He then joined Hamburger SV in 2018, adapting to German football and becoming a regular in the 2. Bundesliga. Loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Cercle Brugge, followed by a period at Aberdeen, broadened his experience. Bates later continued his career in Belgium with KV Mechelen and Standard Liège. He represented Scotland at senior level, making his debut in a 4–0 win over Albania in November 2018. Bates is currently listed with Amed.
