Alejandro Catena Marugán

Alejandro Catena Marugán, commonly known as Catena, is a Spanish centre-back born in Madrid in 1994. Standing 194 centimetres tall, he developed through the lower levels of Spanish football before joining Reus, where he made his Segunda División debut during the 2018–19 season. When Reus suffered financial difficulties, Catena became a free agent and moved to Rayo Vallecano in January 2019. Although Rayo were relegated soon afterwards, he established himself in their defence during the following Segunda División campaigns. Catena helped Rayo return to La Liga through the promotion play-offs, contributing aerial strength and progressive distribution from the back. He joined Osasuna in July 2023 and continued his top-flight career as a regularly used central defender. At Osasuna, Catena’s game centres on positioning, clearances, aerial duels and long passes that can launch attacks, while his height also makes him a threat at set pieces.
