Cristian Gabriel Romero

Cristian Gabriel Romero is an Argentine centre-back born in Córdoba in 1998. He developed at Belgrano, joined the club’s academy in 2014 and made his senior debut in 2016. Romero moved to Genoa in 2018, where his front-foot defending began attracting wider attention. After transferring to Juventus in 2019, he continued his development with Atalanta, featuring in their aggressive man-marking system during the 2020–21 season and earning Serie A’s Best Defender award. He joined Tottenham in 2021, initially on loan before the move became permanent, and established himself as a forceful defender who steps out to intercept and contributes to build-up play. For Argentina, Romero started the 2021 Copa América final and the 2022 World Cup final, helping win both titles. In 2025, he captained Tottenham to the Europa League title and was named the tournament’s Player of the Season.
