Carlos Manuel Martínez Castro
Carlos Manuel Martínez Castro is a Costa Rican defender, primarily a right-back, born on 30 March 1999 in Santa Ana. At 16, he left Costa Rica to join Aspire Academy in Senegal in 2015, becoming only the second Costa Rican integrated into the programme. Martínez moved to Belgium in 2017 and signed for KAS Eupen, gaining experience in a European tactical environment without establishing himself as a regular first-team player. He returned home in 2019 with Guadalupe FC, then played for AD San Carlos from 2020 to 2023 before joining LD Alajuelense. At Alajuelense, Martínez featured in domestic football and the Concacaf Champions Cup, while developing greater flexibility in possession and defensive positioning. He represented Costa Rica at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, starting against Spain and playing 45 minutes.
