Christian Albert Elliot Burgess

Christian Albert Elliot Burgess is an English centre-back, born in London on 7 October 1991 and standing 1.96 metres tall. He developed in Arsenal’s youth system before spending time with Bishop’s Stortford and combining university football with a history degree at the University of Birmingham. A trial at Middlesbrough in 2012 led to his first professional contract, and he made his senior debut for the club in 2013. Burgess then built experience through Hartlepool United and Peterborough before joining Portsmouth in 2015. Across five seasons at Fratton Park, he helped Portsmouth win the 2016–17 League Two title and the 2018–19 EFL Trophy. In 2020, Burgess moved to Union St. Gilloise, contributing to its rise from Belgium’s second tier to the Pro League and later its 2024–25 league title. Now listed with Gent, Christian Burgess is recognised for aerial defending, positional organisation and distribution from the back.
