Carlos Nahuel Benavídez Protesoni

Carlos Nahuel Benavídez Protesoni is a Uruguayan defensive midfielder born in Montevideo on 30 March 1998. He developed at Defensor Sporting, joining the club’s youth ranks in 2011 before making his senior debut in 2016 and becoming a regular in the Uruguayan Primera División the following year. Benavídez represented Uruguay at under-20 level in 2017, helping the team win the South American Under-20 Championship and reach the FIFA Under-20 World Cup semi-finals. In July 2018, he moved to Argentina to join Independiente. His spell there included league football and competition in the Copa Sudamericana and Suruga Bank Championship. Benavídez signed for Alavés in 2022 and contributed to the club’s return to La Liga after beginning in Spain’s Segunda División. At Alavés, he screens the defence and can operate as a stabilising central midfielder.
