Ander Barrenetxea Muguruza
Ander Barrenetxea Muguruza is a Spanish forward born in San Sebastián on 27 December 2001. He joined Real Sociedad’s Zubieta academy from local club Antiguoko in 2013 and progressed into the senior setup. Barrenetxea made his professional debut against Deportivo Alavés in December 2018, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to appear in La Liga. He scored his first professional goal against Real Madrid in May 2019. The forward was part of Real Sociedad’s squad that won the 2019–20 Copa del Rey, appearing as a substitute in the final against Athletic Club. A serious thigh injury requiring surgery interrupted his progress in 2022, but he returned to reach 100 appearances for the club in February 2023. Barrenetxea has developed from a wide attacker into a versatile forward who can operate from the left or in a wing-back role.
