Birkir Heimisson

Birkir Heimisson is an Icelandic central midfielder who developed in the Netherlands before establishing himself in domestic football. He joined SC Heerenveen’s academy in July 2016 and progressed through the club’s U17, U19 and U21 levels, making 13 U19 appearances in 2018–19. Heimisson returned to Iceland in February 2020 to join Valur, beginning his senior career with one of the country’s leading clubs. His 2023 league season brought three goals in 22 appearances, a personal statistical breakthrough. After a season with Þór Akureyri in early 2024, he returned to Valur in January 2025. Though registered as a central midfielder, Heimisson has also filled defensive roles, including centre-back and both full-back positions, while his Iceland youth involvement has run from U17 through U21.
