Billy Clifford Gilmour

Billy Clifford Gilmour is a Scottish defensive midfielder born in Irvine on 11 June 2001. He developed at Rangers before joining Chelsea’s academy shortly after turning 16, where he helped the under-18 side win the FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League Trophy. Gilmour made his Chelsea first-team breakthrough in 2020, producing standout displays against Liverpool in the FA Cup and Everton in the Premier League. He also made his Scotland debut during Euro 2020 and was named player of the match against England at Wembley. After a loan spell at Norwich City, Gilmour moved to Brighton, where he developed as a deep-lying midfielder in a possession-based system. In August 2024, he joined Napoli and helped the club win the 2024–25 Serie A title. Gilmour’s game centres on press-resistant passing, positional intelligence and controlling the tempo from deep.
