Benjamin Büchel

Benjamin Büchel is a Liechtenstein goalkeeper born in Ruggell on 4 July 1989. He developed at FC Ruggell before moving to USV Eschen/Mauren and FC Widnau, building senior experience in the Liechtenstein and Swiss lower leagues between 2006 and 2012. In August 2012, Büchel joined AFC Bournemouth on a six-month contract, becoming the second Liechtensteiner to play professionally in England. While contracted to Bournemouth, he had spells with Dorchester Town, Poole Town, Havant & Waterlooville and Welling United from 2013 to 2015. He then joined Oxford United, sharing goalkeeping duties during the 2015–16 season as the club won promotion to League One, before a short period at FC Thalwil. Büchel returned to FC Vaduz in July 2018 and has since become an established goalkeeper for the club and Liechtenstein. He has won four Liechtenstein Cups with Vaduz and was named Liechtenstein Footballer of the Year in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
