Birgir Baldvinsson

Birgir Baldvinsson is an Icelandic defender who developed in KA Akureyri’s youth system. In 2017, he represented Iceland in UEFA European Under-17 qualifiers. He made early senior appearances for KA in 2018, then joined Leiknir Reykjavík and UMF Afturelding to gain experience in Icelandic football. In 2019, Baldvinsson was named MVP of KA’s youth team. In 2023, he moved to the United States and played for the Wisconsin Badgers in the NCAA Big Ten. He started 16 games, leading Wisconsin’s defenders with two goals, five points and five shots on goal, and earned Second-Team All-Big Ten recognition. He returned to KA Akureyri and has featured as a left-back, while also offering cover at right-back and left midfield.
