Anthony Lopes

Anthony Lopes is a Portuguese international goalkeeper born in Givors, France, on 1 October 1990. He began playing at OSGL Football before joining Lyon’s academy at nine, progressing through the club’s reserve side between 2008 and 2012. Lopes made his senior Lyon debut against Nice in the Coupe de la Ligue in October 2012, initially serving as deputy to Rémy Vercoutre. An injury to Vercoutre in April 2013 opened the way for Lopes to establish himself, and he went on to make 489 appearances for Lyon across more than a decade. He helped the club reach the 2020 Champions League semi-finals and was named in that competition’s Squad of the Season. Born in France but eligible through his Portuguese heritage, Lopes represented Portugal and was part of the squad that won UEFA Euro 2016. In January 2025, he left Lyon and joined Nantes, adding a new chapter to a career defined by sharp reflexes and proactive goalkeeping.
