Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo

Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo is a Cameroonian defender, primarily a left-back who can also operate farther forward. He began his senior international profile with Cameroon and moved to the New York Red Bulls in 2014 after developing in Cameroon. In 2015, Oyongo joined CF Montreal, where his overlapping runs and crossing made him a regular attacking outlet from defence. He helped Cameroon win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and started throughout the tournament, including the quarter-final shootout against Senegal. Later that year, a ruptured patellar tendon suffered on international duty interrupted his progress, but he recovered and moved to Montpellier. Oyongo’s career has combined wide defensive work with positional versatility, transition running and service from the flank. His experience with Cameroon and clubs in North America and France established him as a notable figure in his country’s football.
