Alejandro Remiro Gargallo

Álex Remiro, whose full name is Alejandro Remiro Gargallo, is a Spanish goalkeeper born in Cascante on 24 March 1995. He joined Athletic Club’s youth system in 2009 after beginning in judo, progressing through the academy before making his senior debut for Basconia in 2012–13 and moving to Bilbao Athletic in 2014. Remiro spent the 2016–17 season on loan at Levante, making four appearances, before a more influential loan with Huesca in 2017–18. He played 41 of Huesca’s 42 league matches as the club secured its first promotion to La Liga. After returning to Athletic Club, Remiro did not agree a new contract and spent the 2018–19 campaign away from first-team match action. He joined Real Sociedad in 2019, kept a clean sheet on his debut against Alavés, and helped the club win the 2020 Copa del Rey against Athletic Club. Remiro later became involved with Spain and was part of the squad that won UEFA Euro 2024, while his distribution and sweeping behind the defence have reinforced his role at Real Sociedad.
