Afonso Gamelas de Pinho Sousa

Afonso Gamelas de Pinho Sousa is a Portuguese attacking midfielder born in Aveiro. He developed at SC Beira-Mar before joining FC Porto’s academy, with a brief spell at Gafanha preceding his return to Porto. Sousa helped Porto win the 2018–19 UEFA Youth League, scoring three goals during the campaign, including one in the final against Chelsea. After playing for Porto B, he moved to Belenenses in 2020 and gained Primeira Liga experience over the following two seasons. In 2022, Sousa joined Lech Poznań, where his role grew from rotational attacking midfielder to an important creator. During Lech’s 2024–25 title-winning campaign, he recorded 13 goals and six assists and was named Ekstraklasa Midfielder of the Season. A Portugal youth international, Sousa now represents Samsunspor, continuing his progression as a midfielder who links central play with the final third.
