Abel Bretones Cruz

Abel Bretones Cruz is a Spanish left-back who rose from Asturian football to La Liga. Born in Langreo on 21 August 2000, he began his football education locally before joining Real Oviedo on 31 January 2022. Initially assigned to Oviedo’s reserve side, he impressed in pre-season and earned his senior debut on 21 August 2022, starting in a 1–0 victory over Leganés. By January 2023, Bretones had joined the first-team squad and adopted the number two shirt. He scored his first professional goal against Eldense in October 2023. During the 2023–24 Segunda División campaign, he became a regular left-sided presence, making 43 appearances and contributing energetic running and delivery. Osasuna signed him in July 2024, giving Bretones his top-flight opportunity. In his first La Liga season, he made 35 appearances and scored twice.
