Alec Smir

Alec Smir is an American goalkeeper born in San Antonio on April 13, 1999. He developed with North Carolina Fusion from 2013 to 2017 and received call-ups to U.S. Under-18 national-team training camps in 2015, 2016 and 2017. After redshirting in 2018, Smir became a starter at the University of North Carolina, making 68 appearances. In the 2020–21 season, he helped UNC reach the NCAA College Cup, leading the ACC with 10 shutouts and a 0.57 goals-against average. FC Dallas selected him 62nd overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, after which he joined Minnesota United 2 and won that year’s Goalie Wars competition. He also spent time with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, making one U.S. Open Cup appearance, before signing with Minnesota United FC and making his MLS debut against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 3, 2024. Alec Smir remains part of Minnesota’s goalkeeper group, offering collegiate experience and professional depth.
