András Schäfer
András Schäfer is a Hungarian central midfielder born in Szombathely. He developed at Illés Akadémia before joining MTK Budapest in 2014, making his professional debut and helping the club win the NB II title in 2017–18. In 2019 he moved to Genoa, but did not make a first-team appearance, and a loan spell at Chievo Verona did not bring a breakthrough. Schäfer revived his career at DAC Dunajská Streda in 2020, making 61 appearances before joining Union Berlin in January 2022. With Hungary, he started all three of the nation’s Euro 2020 group matches and scored against Germany in a 2–2 draw. He also represented Hungary at Euro 2024, while his energetic game combines pressing, short passing and runs between midfield and attack.
