Alfons Sampsted

Alfons Sampsted is an Icelandic defender, primarily a right-back, born in Kópavogur on 6 April 1998. He began his senior career with Breidablik in 2015 and also spent time on loan at Thor Akureyri before establishing himself in the Icelandic top flight. In early 2017, Sampsted moved to IFK Norrkoping, where limited first-team opportunities brought loans to IF Sylvia, Landskrona BoIS and a return to Breidablik. He joined Bodo/Glimt in February 2020 and became a regular in their energetic system. Sampsted helped the Norwegian club win consecutive Eliteserien titles in 2020 and 2021 while featuring in European competition. He moved to FC Twente in December 2022, later joined Birmingham City on loan in 2024, and won League One before making the move permanent. In January 2026, he joined Go Ahead Eagles and has represented Iceland internationally.
