Adrián Alonso Martínez Batista

Adrián Alonso Martínez Batista is a Costa Rican forward from Puntarenas, born on 15 October 1998. He developed in Costa Rica with Guadalupe FC before joining LD Alajuelense, where he helped win the 2021 Supercopa de Costa Rica. In August 2021, Martínez moved to Belgian club Lommel SK, scoring eight goals across two seasons. He joined New York City FC on a free transfer in August 2023 and initially made three appearances. His breakthrough came in 2024, when he was moved from the wing into a central striker role and scored three goals in ten minutes against the San Jose Earthquakes on 31 May. In 2025, Martínez scored 19 goals in 33 MLS appearances and was named NYCFC’s Most Valuable Player. He has also been involved with Costa Rica, combining direct movement and pressing with increasingly decisive finishing.
