Andriy Lunin

Andriy Lunin is a Ukrainian goalkeeper born on 11 February 1999 in Krasnohrad. He developed in Metalist Kharkiv and Dnipro’s youth systems, making his Ukrainian Premier League debut for Dnipro at 17. In 2017, he moved to Zorya Luhansk, where he became first choice and made his European debut against Östersunds. Real Madrid signed Lunin in summer 2018, then loaned him to Leganés, Real Valladolid and Real Oviedo, where he made 20 appearances during a half-season in 2020. He also represented Ukraine at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, helping the team win the title and claiming the Golden Glove. After returning to Madrid, Lunin spent several seasons as Thibaut Courtois’s understudy, with most opportunities coming in the Copa del Rey. When Courtois suffered a season-ending ACL injury in 2023, Lunin won the starting role and produced nine saves against RB Leipzig, then made eight saves against Manchester City before stopping two penalties in the shootout. His performances helped Real Madrid complete their successful 2023–24 Champions League campaign, establishing Lunin as a decisive option in goal.
