Alistair William Johnston

Alistair William Johnston is a Canadian right-back born in Vancouver in 1998. He developed through youth football in Ontario before playing for St. John’s and Wake Forest, where he moved from central midfield into the full-back role. Nashville SC selected Johnston 11th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, and he established himself as a starter during the club’s early MLS seasons. He joined CF Montréal in 2022 and recorded four goals and five assists while earning the club’s Defensive Player of the Year award. In 2023, Johnston moved to Celtic, made his debut in an Old Firm derby and won a domestic treble in his first season. For Canada, he set a national record with 18 international appearances in 2021 and started every match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Johnston combines one-on-one defending with disciplined positioning and the ability to support build-up play on the right.
