Aarón Joseph Herrera

Aarón Joseph Herrera is a Guatemalan right-back born in Las Cruces, United States, on June 6, 1997. At 15, he moved to the Real Salt Lake Academy in Arizona, helping the academy reach the USSDA National Championship twice before playing for the University of New Mexico from 2015 to 2017. Real Salt Lake signed Herrera as its 14th Homegrown player in December 2017, and he initially played left-back before switching to his natural right-back role in 2019. That season, he was named the club’s Defensive Player of the Year after leading Real Salt Lake in minutes and tackles. In 2021, Herrera set the club record for assists by a defender in one season with 11. He later continued his MLS career with CF Montréal and joined D.C. United in late 2023. After representing the United States at under-20 and under-23 level, Herrera switched allegiance to Guatemala in 2023 and has since represented the country as a versatile full-back.
