Alexander Nicholas Bono

Alexander Nicholas Bono is an American goalkeeper born in Syracuse, New York, on April 25, 1994. He developed at Charles W. Baker High School and joined Syracuse University, becoming the first true freshman to start a season opener for the program since 2005. By 2014, Bono had set Syracuse records for a 0.55 goals-against average and 14 shutouts, earning ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors and becoming a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist. In 2015, he left college early, signed a Generation adidas contract, and joined Toronto FC as the sixth overall MLS selection, later developing with Toronto FC II. His breakthrough came in 2016 after an injury to starter Clint Irwin. The following year, Bono recorded a club-record 10 clean sheets and helped Toronto win the MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield, and Canadian Championship, completing a historic treble. After eight years with Toronto, including four Canadian Championships, he joined D.C. United in 2023, spent 2025 with New England Revolution, and returned to D.C. United in January 2026.
