Abubakr Barry

Abubakr Barry is a Gambian midfielder born in Banjul on 2 July 2000. He developed at Superstars Academy before moving to Maccabi Haifa in Israel in 2018, where he completed his youth development. Barry then built senior experience in the Israeli second tier with Hapoel Nof HaGalil, Hapoel Kfar Shalem, Hapoel Nir Ramat HaSharon, Hapoel Kfar Saba and Bnei Yehuda. At Bnei Yehuda, his 2023–24 campaign brought recognition as the Israeli second division’s best player. He joined Austria Vienna in July 2024, marking his move into Austrian top-flight football. Standing 1.90 metres, Barry can operate centrally as a defensive midfielder or a more advanced number eight. His game combines physical work with vertical ball progression and late involvement in attack. Barry also represents Gambia internationally, adding senior football to a career developed across three countries.
