Amir Abrashi

Amir Abrashi is an Albanian defensive midfielder born in Bischofszell, Switzerland, on 27 March 1990. He developed through FC Bischofszell, FC Weinfelden-Bürglen and FC Winterthur, making his senior debut for Winterthur in the Swiss Challenge League in 2008. In 2010, Abrashi joined Grasshoppers on loan and later moved permanently, helping the Zürich club win the 2012–13 Swiss Cup. After representing Switzerland at youth level, including the 2011 European Under-21 Championship and 2012 Olympics, he switched allegiance to Albania in 2013. He played every minute of Albania’s UEFA Euro 2016 campaign. Abrashi moved to SC Freiburg in 2015, contributing to their 2015–16 2. Bundesliga title and promotion to the Bundesliga, before a loan at FC Basel in 2021. He returned to Grasshoppers that year and has continued as a senior defensive presence and captain.
