Premier Soccer League About
Premier Soccer League, currently known as the Betway Premiership for sponsorship purposes, is South Africa’s top-tier professional men’s football league and the highest level of the national football pyramid. It crowns the country’s official league champion and provides the principal domestic route to elite club football, continental competition and the South African national team.
Role and identity
The competition is administered by the National Soccer League (NSL), a special member of the South African Football Association (SAFA). Its purpose extends beyond organising fixtures and awarding a championship. The league was created to professionalise football, establish a commercially sustainable national competition and promote non-racialism and national unity through sport. Its leading clubs are among the most prominent organisations in South African football, while its players contribute to national teams and to the wider African club game.
