The final is a single-match occasion, usually staged at a designated venue and, where arranged, on neutral ground. It provides the competition with its defining conclusion: one match to settle the national knockout title.

Match rules and decisive moments

Matches consist of two 45-minute halves. If a knockout tie is level after 90 minutes, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played. Should the scores remain equal after 120 minutes, the winner is decided by a penalty shootout in accordance with the applicable competition regulations. The away-goals rule is generally not relevant because ties are normally played over one match.
